Along with Akshobhya and Amitabha, Vairochana is one of the three most important Buddhas in Tantric Buddhism. These three constitute the organizing structure of the first category of the Tantric classification system's fourfold classification system. According to some Sutra interpretations, Vairochana is a universal form of Shakyamuni Buddha, and he is particularly significant in the history of the early development of Buddhist Tantra.
