The Buddha sits on a moon disc lotus with peaceful appearance and performs the "Bhumisparsa Mudra," which symbolizes the Buddha's awakening. He claimed to have then proceeded to a deer park in Sarnath (Benares), India, on the outskirts of Varanasi.
