Mahasiddha Naropa: The Enlightened Vajrayana Master

Naropa is a well-known Indian Buddhist scholar, mahasiddha (accomplished tantric teacher), and primary carrier of Vajrayana teachings. Born into a Brahmin household, he attended the renowned monastic university Nalanda University, where he excelled in Buddhist philosophy and tantra. He studied Buddhist philosophy and tantra, but left scholastic life to become the main disciple of Tilopa. Naropa synthesized and systematized his teacher’s instructions into a coherent system known as the Six Yogas of Naropa, a set of advanced meditative and tantric practices that remain central to the lineages of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism.
