The 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje (1924–1981), was one of the most prominent Tibetan Buddhist masters of the twentieth century. He was renowned for his profound wisdom, spiritual realization, and the Black Crown ceremony, which was said to grant liberation upon sight to all who witnessed it with an open heart.
