Embodiment of Longevity: 24k gold coated amitayus sacred sculpture
This 24K Gold Coated Amitayus Sacred Sculpture is a finely detailed representation of the Buddha of Infinite Life, created with meticulous attention to traditional Himalayan craftsmanship. Measuring 14.5”/37cm in height with a 10.2”/26cm base and weighing 4 kg, the sculpture is crafted from a copper body that has been carefully shaped to define Amitayus’s seated figure, ornate crown, jewelry, flowing garments, lotus pedestal, and finely worked decorative details. The surface is finished with 24K gold gilding, giving the sculpture a rich golden appearance while emphasizing the extensive engraved patterns across the figure and pedestal. Detailed acrylic painting is applied to the blue hair, eyebrows, eyes, lips, and other fine facial elements, providing definition against the gilded surface. Carefully set gemstones decorate the crown, necklaces, bracelets, armlets, and ornamental details, introducing subtle touches of color throughout the sculpture. The combination of copper craftsmanship, gold gilding, precise painted details, and gemstone embellishment gives this sacred sculpture a richly finished and carefully refined appearance.
Amitayus is depicted seated peacefully in full lotus posture upon an elaborately carved lotus pedestal, with his body presented in the traditional bodhisattva form. His serene face features gently lowered eyes, finely painted eyebrows and lips, a small urna, elongated earlobes, and dark blue hair gathered into the ushnisha beneath an elaborate jeweled crown. The crown rises in several richly ornamented sections and is decorated with colorful gemstones, while large earrings, layered necklaces, armlets, bracelets, and other jewelry adorn his body. His hands are brought together in his lap, holding the distinctive long-life vase at the center of the figure. The vase is prominently positioned between his hands and rises toward his chest, clearly identifying Amitayus and his association with longevity. His upper body is richly adorned with engraved ornamental patterns, while the lower garment covers his crossed legs with detailed borders and flowing decorative motifs. The figure sits firmly in vajra posture, with the crossed legs resting above the broad lotus base. The pedestal features multiple layers of carved lotus petals and intricate ornamental bands, complementing the elaborate decoration of the deity above. The calm facial expression, crowned bodhisattva appearance, seated meditative posture, long-life vase, elaborate jewelry, patterned garments, and lotus pedestal precisely define the Amitayus iconography represented in this sculpture.
