Shakyamuni Buddha, also known as Siddhartha Gautama, was a spiritual teacher and the founder of Buddhism who lived in the 5th to 6th century BCE. Born a prince in Lumbini, Nepal, he renounced his royal life in search of the truth about suffering and liberation. After years of deep meditation and spiritual practice, he attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, India. From then on, he became known as Shakyamuni, meaning “Sage of the Shakya Clan.” He spent the rest of his life teaching the Eightfold Path and the Four Noble Truths, guiding others toward freedom from suffering and ultimate awakening.
