Description

An Amitayus Life Sustaining Buddha Statue for Longevity and Merit

This Amitayus Life-Sustaining Buddha Statue measures 13.4 inches (34 cm) in height, rests upon an 11-inch (28 cm) base, and weighs 3.42 kg, giving it a balanced and dignified presence. The copper body provides a carefully formed foundation for the Buddha’s meditative posture, peaceful expression, elaborate crown, flowing garments, ornaments, and detailed lotus throne. Its surface is enriched with 24K gold gilding, which draws attention to the sculpted contours and engraved patterns throughout the figure. Acrylic painting is applied with precision to define the eyes, facial features, hair, garments, and smaller decorative elements. The statue’s refined proportions make it an appropriate centerpiece for a Buddhist altar, meditation room, long-life practice space, Dharma center, or collection of Himalayan sacred art.

Amitayus sits in the vajra posture upon a lotus throne, expressing meditative stability, purity, and freedom from ordinary attachments. Both hands rest in his lap in Dhyana Mudra, the gesture of deep meditation, while holding the kalasha, or long-life vase. This sacred vessel is understood to contain the nectar of immortality and symbolizes vitality, the renewal of life force, accumulated merit, and freedom from obstacles that shorten one’s opportunity to practise the Dharma. His crown, jewelry, and richly adorned appearance identify him as a sambhogakaya Buddha, revealing the luminous qualities of enlightenment. As the long-life form of Amitabha Buddha, Amitayus reminds practitioners that longevity is most meaningful when used to cultivate wisdom, compassion, and beneficial action.

Amitayus, also known as Aparimitayur, is the Buddha of Infinite Life and a celestial manifestation of Amitabha Buddha. He is central to Vajrayana practices involving the extension of life, the prevention of untimely death, and the accumulation of wisdom and merit. By meditating on Amitayus, practitioners aspire to realize the immortal nature of the mind and ensure a favorable rebirth to continue their spiritual journey toward liberation. He is often depicted seated in the vajra posture, adorned with the ornaments of a bodhisattva, signifying his accessibility to practitioners.
