Amitayus Sacred Statue | The Nectar of Immortality and Spiritual Wisdom

This Amitayus Sacred Statue measures 18.31”/46.5cm in height with a 12.4”/31.5cm base and weighs 7.8 kg. Handcrafted in Nepal from a copper body, the sculpture is finished with 24K gold gilding, detailed acrylic painting, and carefully placed gemstones that enrich the surface with luminosity, color, and refined decorative depth. Its substantial proportions and meticulous hand-finishing reflect the skill of Nepalese artisans and the enduring traditions of Himalayan Buddhist metalwork. Spiritually, the figure is associated with longevity, vitality, wisdom, and the accumulation of merit, making this piece meaningful for Buddhist altars, meditation spaces, Dharma centers, monasteries, or sacred collections.

This Amitayus is depicted as a serene, youthful sixteen-year-old figure with one peaceful face and a calm, compassionate expression. He is seated in the full vajra posture upon a lotus throne and moon disc, with both hands resting together in dhyana mudra while holding the long-life vase (kalasha). The vase contains amrita, the nectar of immortality, and is traditionally topped with a wish-fulfilling sprout or ashoka leaves, symbolizing freedom from disease and decay. He wears a five-jeweled crown representing the Five Buddha Families and Five Wisdoms, along with fine silk garments and traditional Bodhisattva ornaments. His long dark hair is gathered into a crown-like topknot, with the remaining tresses flowing gracefully over his shoulders.

Amitayus originates in Indian Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhist traditions and later became especially important in Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism. He is regarded as the Buddha of Infinite Life and represents the long-life aspect of Amitabha Buddha. His practices were transmitted from India into Tibet, where they became central to rituals and meditations focused on longevity, vitality, merit, and the preservation of favorable conditions for spiritual practice. In Tibetan Buddhism, he is especially revered in long-life ceremonies and is associated with extending life so practitioners can continue cultivating wisdom, compassion, and progress on the path to enlightenment.
