He holds a crystal mala in his upper right hand, symbolizing the cyclic nature of existence (saṃsāra) and the liberating practice of mantra recitation. A lotus blooms in his upper left hand, representing purity and spiritual awakening beyond worldly pain. His two main hands meet at the heart in Anjali Mudra (añjali mudrā), a gesture of deep reverence expressing the unity of wisdom (prajñā) and compassionate action (upāya). He emanates serenity and strength in the immovable Vajra posture (vajrāsana). Atop his head rests an ushnisha (uśṇīṣa), a mark of his enlightened state, crowned by the Five Dhyani Buddhas—symbolizing the fivefold wisdoms (pañca-jñāna) that illuminate the path to awakening.

Who is Chenrezig?
