Handmade Begtsechen Mahakala Statue | Vajrayana protector
The Begtsechen Mahakala Statue measures 19.3 inches (49 cm) in height and 15.6 inches (39.5 cm) in diameter at the base. It weighs 11.26 kilograms and is crafted with 24K gold gilding, gold and acrylic paintings, and a copper body. Begtse stands on a sun disc, with his right foot on the corpse of a horse and his left on the corpse of a man, a typical stance for wrathful deities that symbolizes his conquest over worldly and spiritual enemies. He wears protective armor reminiscent of a Tibetan warrior’s mail coat, reflecting his origin as a war deity. His crown is made of five skulls, symbolizing the transformation of the five poisons into wisdom, and he wears a necklace of fifty freshly severed heads, signifying his power over enemies and obstacles. His right hand wields a scorpion-handled sword, a weapon to cut through ignorance and evil. His left hand clutches a fresh human heart, symbolizing the death of ego and dominance over earthly life. In the crook of his left arm, he holds a bow and arrow with a banner, and a long lance rests on his shoulder, reinforcing his warrior aspect. Despite his terrifying appearance, Begtse Chen’s wrath is compassionate and purposeful - it protects the Dharma and practitioners by frightening away demons and obstacles.
