Description

Black Manjushri Copper Statue: A Potent Symbol of Profound Wisdom

This Black Manjushri Copper Statue measures 33.5 cm in height with a 27.5 cm base and weighs 4.01 kg. The copper body is finished with gold and acrylic painting, combining warm metallic accents with contrasting painted details. Gold painting enriches the decorative finish, while acrylic colors bring definition to the figure’s features and sculpted elements. Its substantial proportions give the sculpture a prominent presence without requiring the space of a large temple installation. Suited to a Buddhist altar, meditation room, or Himalayan art collection, the piece offers a meaningful focus for contemplation and devotion.

Black Manjushri represents a powerful manifestation of the bodhisattva of wisdom. In traditional depictions, he has one face and two arms, with his right hand raising a flaming sword that symbolizes wisdom cutting through ignorance. The Prajnaparamita scripture, another principal attribute, represents the perfection of wisdom and may appear supported by a flower held in his left hand. His imagery ranges from partly peaceful and partly wrathful seated forms to fiercer standing representations, depending on the tradition. These expressions emphasize the strength of awakened understanding and the determination required to overcome confusion, making his representation closely connected with the cultivation of insight and clarity along the Buddhist path.

Black Manjushri is a specific wrathful manifestation of Manjushri, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom. While Manjushri is typically depicted in a peaceful form, Black Manjushri arises to forcefully overcome the most stubborn inner and outer obstacles, particularly those related to mental afflictions, ignorance, and negative karmic imprints. He is invoked in specific tantric practices for purification, protection, and the rapid development of profound wisdom.
