In the sadhanas of healing, Medicine Buddha Statue emerges as a healer Buddhist Deity. As with other buddhas, he is typically shown seated on a lotus throne and surrounded by halos, signifying his mature spiritual power. The right hand of Bhashajyaguru is in the Abhaya, or fearlessness mudra.

The Buddha of Medicine is the center of three sutras in the Tibetan Kangyur. One sutra outlines the twelve ambitions of the Buddha of Medicine, another outlines the aspirations of the seven other medicine buddhas, and the third sutra outlines the dharanis or mantras of the numerous buddhas of treatment. He is also a key figure in the Four Medical Tantras, which serve as the foundation for Tibetan medicine and various therapeutic sadhanas.
