Milarepa (c. 1040–1123) is one of Tibet’s most revered yogis and poets, celebrated for his profound transformation from a life of vengeance to spiritual enlightenment. Born into a wealthy family in Gungthang, Tibet, he lost his father at a young age and was later wronged by his relatives. At his mother's urging, Milarepa studied black magic and caused harm to those who had wronged them. Overcome with remorse, he sought redemption by becoming a disciple of the great teacher Marpa the Translator. Under Marpa’s guidance, Milarepa endured years of hardship and rigorous training in meditation and tantric practices. Through unwavering dedication, he attained enlightenment within his lifetime, embodying the possibility of spiritual liberation through sincere effort. Milarepa is also renowned for his spiritual songs, known as "The Hundred Thousand Songs of Milarepa," which express his realizations and teachings.
