Handcrafted Buddhist Disciple Sculptures | Sacred Pure Land Assembly
This Handcrafted Buddhist Disciple Sculptures set measures 13.18”/33.5cm in height with a 5.11”/13cm base and weighs 2.92 kg. Handcrafted in Nepal from copper bodies, the sculptures are enhanced with gold and detailed acrylic painting that bring warmth, contrast, and definition to the carefully worked surfaces. The balanced proportions, refined metalwork, and meticulous hand-finishing reflect the skill of Nepalese artisans and the enduring traditions of Himalayan Buddhist craftsmanship. Spiritually, the figures represent devoted followers of the Buddha and the continuity of Dharma transmission, symbolizing discipline, learning, devotion, and the preservation of Buddhist teachings.
This sacred set represents the attendant bodhisattvas associated with Amitabha Buddha and the Pure Land tradition, embodying compassion, wisdom, guidance, and spiritual support. In the traditional Amitabha triad, the two attendants are Avalokiteshvara (Chenrezig) and Mahasthamaprapta, who stand beside the Buddha as compassionate and wisdom-oriented manifestations. Avalokiteshvara is distinguished by the small image of Amitabha in the crown and is associated with boundless compassion, while Mahasthamaprapta represents great spiritual power and wisdom and may be identified by a vase or related sacred emblem in the crown. Both are portrayed as graceful bodhisattvas wearing jeweled crowns, necklaces, earrings, armlets, bracelets, celestial garments, and flowing scarves, reflecting their enlightened status rather than the simple robes of monastic disciples. Their calm expressions, elegant postures, lotus supports, and refined ornaments symbolize purity, compassion, and readiness to guide sentient beings. Together, these figures represent the complementary qualities of compassion and wisdom, supporting the aspiration for liberation and rebirth in Amitabha’s Western Pure Land.
