Shakyamuni Buddha is depicted sitting in the lotus pose (padmasana), indicating his steady concentration and mastery over the distractions of the material world. His right hand, stretched toward the earth in bhumisparsha mudra, represents his moment of enlightenment, inviting the earth to witness his waking. The left hand, lying gently in his lap in dhyana mudra and holding an alms bowl, depicts the profound state of meditation and mindfulness that leads to insight and clarity. He is shown with an ushnisha (cranial protuberance) symbolizing wisdom, elongated earlobes from wearing heavy jewelry as a prince, and a serene expression. The crown prominently features representations of the five Dhyani Buddhas (Vairocana, Akshobhya, Ratnasambhava, Amitabha, and Amoghasiddhi). Each Buddha symbolizes specific aspects of enlightenment and spiritual qualities, such as wisdom, compassion, and transformation. The inclusion of deer figures on either side of the crown signifies harmony and peace. The intricate necklaces and chest adornments emphasize Shakyamuni Buddha’s transcendence over material desires.
