Description

Dipankara Buddha Tibetan Statue: Embodiment of Past Enlightenments

This Dipankara Buddha Tibetan Statue rises to 19.88 inches (50.5 cm) in height, rests upon a 9.65-inch (24.5 cm) base, and weighs 5.72 kg. Handcrafted by skilled Nepali artisans from copper, the sculpture is completed with an antique finish that accentuates the depth of the facial features, curled hair, layered monastic robes, and decorative pedestal. Darker tones settle into the deeply modeled folds and engraved patterns, contrasting with the gently polished raised areas. The tall, slender proportions and upright stance give the statue a dignified presence without overwhelming the refined details. It is well suited for a Buddhist altar, temple shrine, meditation room, teaching space, or collection devoted to Himalayan Buddhist sculpture.

Dipankara Buddha is portrayed standing peacefully upon an elevated lotus pedestal, dressed in the robes of an ordained monk. His raised right hand forms a teaching gesture, with the thumb and index finger joined to express the transmission and contemplation of the Dharma. His other hand gathers the edge of his robe near the body, strengthening the restrained appearance associated with renunciation and disciplined practice. The ushnisha, elongated earlobes, calm expression, and upright posture communicate awakened wisdom and spiritual clarity. Revered as a Buddha of a distant past, Dipankara is remembered for encountering the ascetic Sumedha and predicting that he would eventually attain enlightenment as Shakyamuni Buddha. His presence therefore represents the continuity of the Buddhist teachings, the accumulation of merit across many lives, and the enduring aspiration to reach complete awakening.
