Dorje Drollo - Fierce Manifestation of Guru Rinpoche | Tibetan Buddhism Style Artwork
This Dorje Drollo (Fierce Manifestation of Guru Rinpoche Statue), also known as a wrathful form of Padmasambhava, measures 19.7”/50cm in height and 14.4”/36.5cm at the base, weighing 7.15 kg. Made from copper, covered with a triple layer of 24K gold gilding, and carved with deeply engraved carvings that produce a magnificent 3D-like effect. This sculpture, handcrafted by expert Nepalese artisans, elegantly symbolizes Himalayan Buddhism's sacred traditions, making it an appropriate addition to altars, meditation places, or sacred collections.
Dorje Drolö is one of the eight manifestations of Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), embodying his most wrathful and forceful aspect. He appears in a fierce, dynamic form that radiates untamed compassion and the power to subjugate all harmful forces. Dorje Drolö is adorned in ornate tantric garments, blending the look of a realized yogi and a spiritual warrior, exuding power and majesty. His face is wrathful, with a third eye that penetrates all illusion and fangs bared to show his readiness to destroy ignorance. Behind him blazes a flaming halo, symbolizing his awakened energy and fiery wisdom. In his right hand, he holds a viswa vajra (double vajra), representing unshakable spiritual realization. In his left hand, he wields a phurba (ritual dagger)—used to pin and neutralize negative energies—with a vajra rising on the opposite end, signifying his complete control over wrathful and peaceful means. Dorje Drolö is uniquely depicted riding a flying tigress, an image charged with symbolic meaning: the tigress represents fierce confidence and primal wisdom energy, while her feet press down upon two subdued beings, illustrating the subjugation of ego and spiritual obstacles. The entire figure is seated upon a sun disc and lotus throne, expressing the union of wisdom (prajñā) and compassion (karuṇā). This vivid depiction reflects Dorje Drolö’s role as a protector and transformer of the dharma, especially within the Vajrayana path.
