His flayed elephant hide over his shoulders and tiger skin around his waist represent the defeat of ignorance and instinctual behavior. Guru Dragpo symbolizes the annihilation of ego and ignorance by standing in a dynamic position, frequently with one leg lifted, and tramping on figures that stand in for barriers or self-cherishing.
