Cultivate Wisdom and Devotion with This Gampopa Kagyu Founder Lineage Statue

Arising from the Himalayan meditative tradition, this Gampopa Kagyu founder lineage statue portrays the revered physician-monk in a state of profound peace. Measuring 8.27”/21cm in height with a 6.1”/15.5cm base and weighing 1.15 kg, it is handcrafted in Nepal from an oxidized copper body with elegant silver plating. Seated upon a beautifully detailed lotus base, Gampopa’s serene form reflects his scholastic wisdom, meditative attainment, and lasting importance within the Kagyu lineage.

Gampopa’s iconographic posture represents the synthesis of Kadampa monastic discipline and the Mahamudra realization of Milarepa. He wears the distinctive hat of his lineage, symbolizing spiritual authority, wisdom transmission, and his role as the founder of the Dagpo Kagyu tradition. His monastic robes reflect purity, renunciation, and disciplined practice, while his hands rest in classical gestures of teaching and meditative composure, showing the union of Dharma instruction and inner realization. His calm, seated posture expresses stability, humility, and awakened presence. Gazing upon his serene countenance inspires modern practitioners to balance formal study with deep, heartfelt meditation and compassionate action.

Gampopa (1079–1153), also known as Dakpo Lharje, was the foremost disciple of the great yogi Milarepa and the prime architect of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. Originally a physician, he turned to the monastic path after a personal tragedy, combining the gradual path of the Kadampa tradition with the direct realization of Mahamudra. His seminal text, the Jewel Ornament of Liberation, remains a foundational guide for practitioners seeking the path to enlightenment.
