Description

Green Tara Statue | A Graceful Altar Figure for Devotion and Meditation

Commanding in scale and distinguished by an exceptionally rich finish, this Green Tara Statue measures 29.5”/75 cm in height with a substantial 23.2”/59 cm base and weighs 28.18 kg. Handcrafted in Nepal by skilled Himalayan artisans, the sculpture is formed from a carefully modeled copper body that provides strength, balance, and a refined foundation for its elaborate surface work. Three layers of genuine 24K gold gilding create a deep, luminous radiance, while precise acrylic painting introduces subtle tonal definition throughout the composition. Carefully set gemstones add vibrant accents and an elevated sense of luxury, complementing the brilliance of the gilded surface. Deeply engraved details produce a magnificent three-dimensional effect, revealing the patience and precision invested in every contour. With its impressive presence and masterful craftsmanship, this sacred artwork is ideally suited to a monastery, meditation hall, grand altar, or distinguished private collection.

The Mother of Liberation embodies active compassion, swift protection, fearlessness, and enlightened wisdom. Her sacred form represents the immediate expression of compassion and her readiness to respond to the suffering, fears, and obstacles of sentient beings. She is depicted seated in the Lalitasana (royal ease posture) upon a lotus pedestal, with her right leg extended downward, symbolizing her readiness to rise and offer assistance without delay. Her right hand rests in the Varada Mudra, the gesture of generosity and compassionate blessings, while her left hand holds the stem of an utpala lotus near her heart, representing purity, wisdom, and spiritual awakening. The blooming lotus beside her shoulder symbolizes the unfolding of enlightened qualities, while her serene expression, jeweled crown, and celestial ornaments reflect the perfected qualities of a Bodhisattva. This sacred representation inspires practitioners to cultivate compassion, courage, inner strength, and the wisdom to overcome fears and obstacles on the path toward liberation.

Green Tara originated within the Indian Mahayana Buddhist tradition and later became especially prominent in Vajrayana Buddhism. Her worship developed from the broader tradition of Tara, a female bodhisattva associated with compassionate activity and deliverance from suffering. Buddhist accounts describe her as having taken a vow to attain enlightenment in a female form and to continue benefiting sentient beings without changing that form. Her practice later spread from India to Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, and Mongolia, where she became one of the most widely revered female figures in Himalayan Buddhism. In Tibetan tradition, she is also connected with Princess Bhrikuti of Nepal, who is regarded as one of her manifestations and is traditionally credited with helping establish Buddhism in Tibet.
