Vajrapani, holding a vajra, is shown as a Bodhisattva on the right side of the Amitabha Buddha in the Amitabha Pure Land. He is the guardian god of the Buddha's teachings and is often depicted in a wrathful form to symbolize the ferociousness needed to conquer ignorance and delusions. In Chinese, he is known as Chih Kung P'usa, and in Japanese, he is known as Jizai Tenno. In Sanskrit, Vajrapani translates to "Holder of the Vajra," with "Vajra" meaning "thunderbolt" or "scepter." It represents the power of total enlightenment and the strength to overcome any obstacle.
