Gampopa’s Spiritual Statue | The Meeting of Kadampa Teachings and Mahamudra
Gampopa’s Spiritual Statue stands 6.5”/16.5cm tall with a 5.3”/13.5cm base and weighs 1.15 kg. Handcrafted in Nepal from copper, the sculpture combines an oxidized patina with acrylic painting, allowing the richly toned metal surface and painted accents to complement the sculpted form. The careful finishing reflects Nepalese craftsmanship and the artistic traditions of Himalayan Buddhist sculpture. Honoring a revered Kagyu master who united the Kadampa teachings with Milarepa’s meditation lineage, this piece evokes a spiritual heritage grounded in disciplined practice, compassion, and wisdom, offering a meaningful presence for an altar or personal meditation space.
Gampopa is depicted as a seated Tibetan Buddhist master in a composed meditative posture, wearing traditional monastic robes and a distinctive tall red pandita-style hat. His face has a calm expression with clearly defined eyes, arched brows, and a gentle smile. Both hands rest together in his lap in a meditative gesture, while the layered robes fall naturally around his body with intricate engraved patterns along the collar, sleeves, chest, and lower garment. The red hat frames his head prominently, contrasting with the dark oxidized copper finish of the sculpture. He is seated on a simple lotus pedestal with broad carved petals and a stepped base, while the finely engraved robe details and carefully modeled facial features reflect traditional Himalayan sculptural craftsmanship.
