Description
Green Tara Buddhist Statue | A Sacred Symbol of Peace and Protection
This Green Tara Buddhist Statue measures 9.06”/23cm in height with a 6.89”/17.5cm base and weighs 1.5 kg. Handcrafted in Nepal from an oxidized copper body, the sculpture features a naturally darkened finish that enhances the contours and finely worked surface while giving the piece a rich, traditional character. The controlled oxidation and precise metal craftsmanship reflect the skill of Nepalese artisans and the enduring traditions of Himalayan Buddhist sculpture. Spiritually, the figure is associated with compassion, protection, swift assistance, and the removal of obstacles, making this piece meaningful for Buddhist altars, meditation spaces, Dharma centers, or sacred collections.
This Green Tara is depicted as a peaceful sixteen-year-old youth with one serene face and two eyes, expressing a calm and compassionate presence. She is seated in lalitasana, the posture of royal ease, upon a moon disc and lotus throne, with her left leg drawn upward and her right leg extended forward, symbolizing readiness to respond and assist. Her right hand rests near the knee in varada mudra, the gesture of generosity and boon-granting, while her left hand is held at the heart in the gesture of refuge or instruction, holding the stem of an utpala, or blue night lotus, which blossoms beside her shoulder. She is adorned with fine silk heavenly garments, a five-jewel crown representing the Five Buddha Families and Five Wisdoms, and traditional bodhisattva jewelry.

Green Tara originates in Indian Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhist traditions and later became especially prominent in Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism. She is regarded as one of the principal forms of Tara and is closely associated with active compassion, swift assistance, protection from fear, and the removal of obstacles. Her practices were transmitted from India into Tibet, where she became one of the most widely revered female figures in Buddhist devotional and meditation traditions. In Tibetan Buddhism, she is often invoked for protection, courage, compassionate action, and support during difficult circumstances.
