This sacred depiction portrays Guru Rinpoche, also known as Padmasambhava, the revered tantric master who played a central role in establishing Vajrayana Buddhism in Tibet. He is traditionally shown seated in a composed posture, holding a vajra in his right hand, symbolizing indestructible wisdom and enlightened power, while his left hand holds a kapala, representing the transformation of ordinary experience and defilements into wisdom. The khatvanga rests against his left shoulder, signifying his mastery of tantric practices and enlightened activity. His distinctive lotus hat, elaborate ornaments, richly patterned robes, and dignified expression identify him as a realized Vajrayana master. The lotus pedestal recalls his miraculous birth from a lotus and represents purity and spiritual awakening. His presence serves as a reminder of the profound Vajrayana teachings, spiritual discipline, fearless compassion, and the transformative power of awakened wisdom.

He is considered by many as a second Buddha, embodying the enlightened activity of all Buddhas and holding a central place in the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism. His teachings emphasize the realization of the true nature of mind.
