Handcrafted in Nepal from a copper body, the sculpture is covered with three layers of 24K gold gilding and enriched with deep hand engraving that creates a pronounced three-dimensional effect across the surface. Detailed acrylic painting and carefully placed gemstones add color and refinement, while the ornate crown, richly patterned robes, layered jewelry, lotus pedestal, and ritual implements reveal the precision of skilled Nepalese artisans. The luminous gilded finish highlights the intricate carving and traditional Himalayan Buddhist metalwork. Spiritually, the figure is associated with enlightened activity, protection, tantric practice, and the transmission of Vajrayana teachings.
This Guru Tsokye Dorje is depicted in the Lake-Born Vajra form of Guru Rinpoche, seated upon a richly carved lotus throne in a stable vajra posture. He has one peaceful yet dignified face with a prominent moustache and short beard, and wears the distinctive lotus hat with an elaborate ornamental crest. His right hand holds a vajra at the heart, symbolizing indestructible awakened awareness, while his left hand rests in his lap holding a skull cup (kapala), representing the transformation of attachment and negative forces. A khatvanga rests against his left shoulder, signifying tantric practice and spiritual accomplishment. He is dressed in richly patterned robes and an outer cloak, complemented by necklaces, earrings, and other ornaments. The garments feature detailed engraved borders and flowing folds, while the lotus throne has multiple layers of finely carved petals. Intricate carving across the hat, robes, jewelry, ritual implements, and throne creates a pronounced three-dimensional effect and reflects the precision of traditional Himalayan craftsmanship.

Guru Tsokye Dorje is one of the Eight Manifestations of Guru Rinpoche, or Padmasambhava, within Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism. His name is commonly translated as “Vajra Born from the Lake,” referring to the traditional account of Padmasambhava’s miraculous appearance in a lotus upon Lake Dhanakosha in the region of Oddiyana. This form emphasizes his tantric mastery, enlightened awareness, and ability to overcome obstacles through wisdom and spiritual power. In Tibetan Buddhist tradition, he is especially associated with Vajrayana practice, protection, the transmission of esoteric teachings, and the transformation of negative forces into conditions that support awakening.
