Handcrafted Green Tara Sculpture | An Elegant Tribute to the Mother of Liberation

This Handcrafted Green Tara Sculpture measures 8.8”/22.5cm in height with a 7.0”/18cm base and weighs 1.4 kg. Handcrafted in Nepal from a copper body, the sculpture is finished with 24K gold gilding, detailed acrylic painting, and carefully placed gemstones that add luminosity, color, and refined decorative depth to the surface. The balanced proportions, precise metalwork, and meticulous hand-finishing reflect the skill of Nepalese artisans and the enduring traditions of Himalayan Buddhist craftsmanship. Spiritually, the figure is associated with compassion, protection, swift assistance, courage, and the removal of obstacles.

Green Tara is depicted in the graceful posture of royal ease (lalitasana), with one leg folded inward and the other extended forward, expressing both meditative stability and readiness to respond to beings in need. Her right hand extends downward in Varada Mudra, symbolizing generosity, compassion, and the granting of blessings, while her left hand is raised near the heart, holding the stem of an utpala lotus that blossoms beside her shoulder. Another lotus rises gracefully on the opposite side, creating a balanced floral frame and symbolizing purity, wisdom, and spiritual awakening. Her serene face, gently lowered eyes, delicate features, and subtle smile convey peaceful awareness and compassion. Her elaborate jeweled crown features layered ornamental details, complemented by large earrings, multiple necklaces, armlets, bracelets, waist ornaments, and flowing celestial scarves. The garments are richly decorated with intricate floral, scrolling, and geometric patterns, while the jewelry follows the contours of her seated form with refined detailing. Beneath her, the multi-tiered lotus throne features deeply carved petals, ornamental borders, and intricate decorative motifs, providing a richly finished foundation. Together, her royal posture, compassionate hand gestures, utpala lotuses, elaborate ornaments, patterned garments, and finely carved throne express Green Tara’s swift compassion, protection, fearlessness, and readiness to assist sentient beings.

Green Tara originates in Indian Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhist traditions and later became one of the most widely revered female deities in Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism. She is closely associated with active compassion, swift assistance, protection from fear, and the removal of obstacles. Her practice was transmitted from India into Tibet, where she became central to prayer, meditation, and devotional traditions across several Buddhist schools. Spiritually, she represents compassionate action in direct response to suffering and is often invoked for courage, protection, guidance, and support on the path toward liberation.
