An Assembly of Liberating Wisdom: The Handcrafted 21 Tara Sacred Statue Set

Rising as a magnificent assembly of enlightened activity, the handcrafted 21 tara sacred statue set captures the supreme manifestation of feminine divinity in Himalayan Buddhism. Each figure in this exceptional collection stands as an individual masterpiece, radiating a profound aura of swift protection and compassionate grace. This curated collection showcases the fine craftsmanship of Newar masters, meticulously shaped to grace a dedicated shrine, temple altar, or personal sacred space.

Twenty-One Taras is iconographically represented as a sacred assembly of enlightened female bodhisattvas, each form embodying a distinct aspect of compassionate activity and protection. Centered around the principal form of Green Tara, the 21 Taras are traditionally depicted with subtle variations in color, posture, hand gestures, and symbolic implements, reflecting their unique functions such as pacifying fears, overcoming obstacles, healing illness, and granting protection from physical and spiritual harm. Most forms are shown seated on lotus thrones, while some appear in dynamic postures such as royal ease or semi-standing readiness, emphasizing swift action in response to suffering. Each Tara holds the utpala lotus in some variation, symbolizing purity and awakened wisdom. Their peaceful yet powerful expressions reflect fearless compassion, and their adorned crowns and silk garments indicate their sambhogakaya nature. Together, the 21 Taras form a unified mandala of enlightened feminine energy, representing the diverse, immediate, and all-embracing compassionate activity of awakened mind.

In Tibetan Buddhism, Tara is revered as the mother of all Buddhas, born from the tears of Avalokiteshvara to assist all sentient beings in overcoming suffering. The twenty-one emanations, detailed in the ancient Praise to the Twenty-One Taras, represent different facets of her enlightened energy, ranging from peaceful protectors to powerful, wrathful destroyers of negativity. Together, they symbolize complete liberation and the ultimate realization of the path to enlightenment.
