This Shakyamuni Buddha statue, known as the "Sage of the Shakya Clan," portrays the historical Buddha in a moment of serene enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree. He represents purity and spiritual awakening in the Vajra posture (Padmasana) on a lotus base. His right hand is extended toward the earth in the Bhumisparsha Mudra, inviting the world to witness his enlightenment. His left hand holds an alms bowl in his lap, symbolising renunciation. The ushnisha atop his head signifies wisdom, and the spiral curls covering his head are said to represent the snails that protected him from the scorching sun during his meditation—an emblem of selfless devotion and nature’s reverence. His serene face reflects inner peace and deep meditation.
