Lokeshwor Copper Sculpture | A Refined Tribute to the Lord of Compassion
This Lokeshwor Copper Sculpture measures 13.78”/35cm in height with an 11.41”/29cm base and weighs 13.56 kg. Handcrafted in Nepal from an oxidized copper body, the sculpture features a deep, naturally darkened finish enhanced with detailed acrylic painting and carefully placed gemstones that add color, contrast, and refined decorative depth to the surface. The substantial proportions, precise metalwork, controlled oxidation, and meticulous hand-finishing reflect the skill of Nepalese artisans and the enduring traditions of Himalayan Buddhist craftsmanship. Spiritually, the figure is associated with compassion, mercy, loving-kindness, and the aspiration to relieve the suffering of all sentient beings.
Lokeshwor, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, is depicted in a relaxed and graceful seated posture, with one leg raised and the other extended forward, conveying both ease and readiness to respond to suffering. His right arm extends outward and downward in a compassionate gesture, while his left arm rests gracefully beside the body with an elaborate lotus stem rising toward the shoulder. His serene expression, gently lowered eyes, elongated earlobes, and subtle smile convey peaceful awareness and compassion. The head is adorned with an intricately carved crown featuring a small seated Buddha figure at its center, while large circular earrings, layered necklaces, armlets, bracelets, and waist ornaments enrich his bodhisattva appearance. Fine engraved patterns decorate the garments, sash, and jewelry, with delicate floral and scrolling motifs adding depth throughout the sculpture. A large circular aureole surrounds the figure, richly carved with continuous floral and scrolling designs, creating an ornate frame. The overall composition emphasizes Lokeshwor’s graceful presence, compassionate nature, refined ornamentation, and readiness to assist sentient beings.
