Guru Rinpoche, or Padmasambhava ("Lotus-Born"), is revered as the Second Buddha in Tibetan Buddhism. An Indian Buddhist master from the 8th century, he is credited with bringing Buddhism to Tibet, subduing malevolent forces, and establishing the first monastery, Samye. He propagated the teachings of Vajrayana and concealed numerous "termas" or spiritual treasures, destined to be discovered when the time was right. His blessings are invoked for protection, guidance, and the removal of obstacles on the spiritual path.
