Description

handmade guru rinpoche traditional sculpture - Embodiment of Himalayan Wisdom and Compassion

This Handmade Guru Rinpoche Traditional Sculpture measures 23.8”/60.5cm in height with a 15.7”/40cm base and weighs 13.4 kg. The sculpture is crafted from a copper body, which provides the detailed structure for Guru Rinpoche’s seated figure, elaborate garments, ornaments, lotus pedestal, and khatvanga staff. The surface is richly finished with 24K gold gilding, covering the main figure and pedestal and emphasizing the finely engraved patterns across his robes, crown, jewelry, and decorative elements. Acrylic painting is carefully applied to selected details, including the dark hair, eyebrows, eyes, lips, moustache, facial markings, and colored elements of the khatvanga, creating contrast against the gilded surface. Gemstones are set into the crown, necklaces, earrings, and other ornamental details, adding carefully placed touches of color to the gold-finished sculpture.

Guru Rinpoche is depicted seated cross-legged in a composed posture, wearing an elaborate lotus-inspired crown with a tall central ornament, large earrings, layered necklaces, and richly patterned robes. His distinctive face features arched eyebrows, a calm yet commanding expression, moustache, and small pointed beard, characteristic of his traditional representation. His right hand extends outward while holding a vajra, symbolizing indestructible awakened wisdom and spiritual power. His left hand rests across his lap holding a skull cup (kapala), an important attribute in his tantric iconography. Resting against his left shoulder is the khatvanga staff, topped by a three-pronged trident and decorated with the traditional arrangement of skulls and symbolic ornaments. The staff is one of Guru Rinpoche’s most recognizable attributes and is closely associated with his tantric master form. His richly decorated robes cover the body and legs with intricate engraved patterns, while the jeweled ornaments across his chest, arms, and ears emphasize his appearance as a tantric master. He sits upon an elaborately carved lotus pedestal with layered lotus petals and ornamental detailing, completing the traditional iconographic composition of Guru Rinpoche, also known as Padmasambhava.
