Jigten Sumgön, the founder of the Drikung Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, is revered as an emanation of Chenrezig (Avalokiteśvara), the Bodhisattva of Compassion. A direct disciple of Phagmo Drupa Dorje Gyalpo, he carried forth the profound teachings of Mahāmudrā (the Great Seal) and Phowa (transference of consciousness). Remembered as both a realized yogi and an accomplished scholar, Jigten Sumgön established the Drikung Thil Monastery in the 12th century, ensuring the preservation and flourishing of the Dharma for generations.
