Milarepa Sacred Sculpture | Great Tibetan Master of Liberation
This Milarepa Sacred Sculpture measures 7.87”/20cm in height with a 5.9”/15cm base and weighs 1.6 kg. Handcrafted in Nepal from an oxidized copper body, the sculpture features a naturally darkened finish complemented by detailed acrylic painting that adds definition and contrast to the carefully worked surface. The refined metalwork and hand-applied painted details reflect the skill of Nepalese artisans and the enduring traditions of Himalayan Buddhist craftsmanship. Spiritually, the figure is associated with meditation, renunciation, perseverance, and the realization of enlightenment through dedicated practice, making this piece meaningful for Buddhist altars, meditation spaces, Dharma centers, or sacred collections.
This Milarepa is depicted in his characteristic yogic form, seated in a relaxed posture that reflects his life of meditation and renunciation. His right hand is raised beside his ear in the distinctive listening gesture, symbolizing his mastery of sacred teachings and his renowned ability to hear and sing profound Dharma songs, while his other hand rests naturally in his lap. He is shown with a lean ascetic body, calm yet expressive face, and long earlobes, wearing the simple white cotton robes traditionally associated with his life as a Himalayan yogi. His uncovered head and austere appearance emphasize his renunciation of worldly adornment and dedication to meditation, realization, and liberation. The distinctive listening gesture, simple cotton clothing, meditative posture, and ascetic form together define the traditional iconography of Jetsun Milarepa.

Milarepa (c. 1052–1135 CE) is one of Tibet's most renowned yogis and poets, a central figure in the history of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. Through immense perseverance, asceticism, and meditation in caves, he achieved complete enlightenment and became a spiritual teacher, celebrated for his spontaneous songs (gurma) expressing profound Buddhist teachings. He symbolizes the triumph of spiritual practice over adversity and the path to liberation.
