Yuthok Yonten Gonpo, particularly the younger Yuthok (1126–1202), was a renowned Tibetan physician, scholar, and Buddhist practitioner who played a major role in the development of Traditional Tibetan Medicine. He was born in Goshi Rethang in western Tibet and studied medicine and Buddhist teachings from an early age. He traveled extensively to India and other regions to study different medical traditions before returning to Tibet, where he compiled and developed important medical teachings, including the Four Medical Tantras (Gyüshi). He is widely regarded as one of the principal founders of the Tibetan medical tradition.
