Description

Handmade Heyagriva Statue | Oxidized Copper Tibetan Buddhist Figurine of Protection

Handmade Heyagriva Statue measures 22.64”/57.5cm in height with a 23.03”/58.5cm base and weighs 31.55 kg. Handcrafted in Nepal from an oxidized copper body, the sculpture carries a deep, naturally darkened finish that enhances the strength and definition of the hand-worked surface, while silver-plated details introduce a refined contrast across the composition. Its substantial scale, carefully finished metalwork, and interplay between oxidation and silver plating reflect the precision of skilled Nepalese artisans and the enduring traditions of Himalayan Buddhist craftsmanship. Spiritually, the figure is associated with powerful protection, the removal of obstacles, and the transformation of negative forces, making this piece meaningful for Buddhist altars, monasteries, Dharma centers, meditation spaces, or sacred collections.

Hayagriva, meaning “Horse-Necked,” is depicted in a powerful three-faced form, accompanied by his consort, expressing the union of compassionate determination and enlightened wisdom. The central figure has three wrathful faces and six arms, with a distinctive horse head rising above the main faces as his primary identifying feature. His six hands hold various sacred ritual implements associated with his wrathful activity, while his body is richly adorned with a crown of five skulls, necklaces, ornaments, and a tiger-skin lower garment. His consort has two arms and is shown in close union with him, holding her own symbolic attributes. Both figures are surrounded by flowing scarves and blazing flames of awareness, while the elaborate ornaments, wrathful expressions, dynamic posture, and intricate decorative details emphasize the powerful tantric character of the manifestation.

Hayagriva has his origins in Indian Buddhist and Hindu traditions and later became especially important within Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism. In the Buddhist tradition, he developed as a powerful wrathful protector closely associated with Avalokiteshvara and the compassionate activity of enlightened beings. His practice was transmitted from India into Tibet, where he became widely revered for subduing harmful forces, overcoming obstacles, and protecting practitioners from spiritual and worldly disturbances. In Tibetan Buddhism, he is particularly associated with powerful protective practices and the transformation of destructive energies into forces that support awakening.
