Maha Rakta Ganapati Iconography
Maha Rakta Ganapati is depicted in a dynamic tantric form with a red elephant head, three eyes, twelve arms, and a powerful dancing posture. His elephant face features prominent tusks, a curved trunk, and an intense yet composed expression, while the elaborate jeweled crown and ornate headpiece emphasize his divine status. His twelve arms extend symmetrically around the body, each carrying a distinct ritual attribute: the right hands hold an axe, arrow, hook, vajra, sword, and spear, while the left hands hold a pestle, bow, khatvanga, skull cups, and a shield with a weapon. Together, these implements represent the power to cut through obstacles, subdue negative forces, overcome hindrances, and transform ordinary attachments into enlightened activity. His richly decorated body is covered with layered necklaces, armlets, bracelets, waist ornaments, and flowing scarves, while his patterned garments add further depth to the composition. He dances upon a rat, his vahana, symbolizing the subjugation of obstructive and restless forces and his ability to transform challenges into beneficial energy. Surrounding him is an elaborate circular aureole filled with curling motifs, jewels, flame-like designs, and ornamental forms, creating a powerful sacred frame. The multi-tiered lotus pedestal beneath the rat is finely carved with rows of petals and intricate borders, completing the elaborate iconographic composition of Maha Rakta Ganapati as a powerful deity associated with obstacle removal, protection, prosperity, and enlightened activity.
Traditional Nepalese Craftsmanship
This Maha Rakta Ganapati Copper Sculpture is handcrafted in Nepal from a copper body and finished with three layers of 24K gold gilding, detailed acrylic painting, and deep hand engraving that creates a pronounced three-dimensional effect across the surface. Intricate carving throughout the crown, jewelry, garments, sacred attributes, aureole, and pedestal gives the sculpture rich texture and depth, while carefully modeled facial features, trunk, tusks, hands, and dynamic limbs reflect precise sculptural craftsmanship. The luminous gilded finish enhances the detailed metalwork and ornamental patterns, showcasing the skill of Nepalese artisans and the refined traditions of Himalayan sacred craftsmanship. Spiritually, the figure is associated with removing obstacles, abundance, prosperity, and transformative spiritual activity.
