Handcrafted in Nepal from a copper body, the sculpture is finished with 24K gold gilding and detailed acrylic painting that bring warmth, contrast, and definition to the carefully worked surface. The refined metalwork, balanced proportions, and meticulous hand-finishing reflect the skill of Nepalese artisans and the enduring traditions of Himalayan Buddhist craftsmanship. Spiritually, the figures represent the continuity of the Kagyu transmission, honoring the masters who preserved and passed down teachings on meditation, realization, devotion, and direct experience of the nature of mind.

  • Marpa Lotsawa: He is depicted as the great translator and principal lineage holder who brought profound Indian Buddhist teachings into Tibet. His dignified appearance reflects his status as a lay tantric master, traditionally shown with a fuller body, mature facial features, and richly layered robes rather than the simple monastic clothing of a monk. His presence represents the transmission of Vajrayana teachings, particularly the profound instructions he received from Indian masters and later passed to his disciple Milarepa.

  • Milarepa: He is shown in his distinctive yogic form, with a lean ascetic body, simple white cotton clothing, and an uncovered head reflecting his life of renunciation and meditation. His right hand is traditionally raised beside his ear in his characteristic listening gesture, associated with his mastery of Dharma teachings and his renowned songs of realization, while his other hand rests naturally in his lap. His austere appearance represents profound meditation, spiritual discipline, realization, and liberation.

  • Gampopa: He is depicted as the accomplished monastic master who brought together the yogic teachings transmitted through Milarepa with the disciplined Buddhist monastic tradition. His shaved head, composed expression, and simple monastic robes distinguish him from the lay appearance of Marpa and the ascetic form of Milarepa. His calm meditative posture represents spiritual discipline, wisdom, compassion, and the establishment of the teachings that became central to the Kagyu lineage.

Together, the three figures represent an unbroken transmission of Dharma—from Marpa’s translation and tantric realization, through Milarepa’s profound yogic practice, to Gampopa’s integration of meditation and monastic discipline.
