Description

Karmapa Oxidized Sculpture: A Meditative Presence for Spiritual Reflection

This Karmapa Oxidized Sculpture stands 13.8 inches (35 cm) high upon a 9.4-inch (24 cm) base and weighs 4.34 kg. Meticulously handcrafted by skilled Nepali artisans, the sculpture is formed from an oxidized copper body with a deep, naturally darkened surface. The finish emphasizes the carefully modeled facial features, folds of the monastic garments, meditation cloak, crown, and decorative seat while revealing the depth of the traditional copper work. Its substantial weight, upright composition, and contemplative presence make it suitable for a Buddhist altar, meditation space, lineage shrine, or collection of Himalayan sacred art.

The Karmapa is portrayed as a realized Buddhist master, seated in a composed meditative posture and dressed in layered monastic robes. His most recognizable attribute is the Black Vajra Crown, which identifies the Karmapa lineage and gives the sculpture a distinct ceremonial presence. His calm expression and dignified seated form reflect the qualities of disciplined practice, spiritual guidance, and meditative realization. As the principal lineage holder of the Karma Kagyu tradition, the Karmapa represents the continuation and transmission of Buddhist teachings from master to disciple across generations.
