This Green Tara Statue, also known as Shyama Tara, stands 55.9 inches (142 cm) tall and has a base measuring 40.4 inches (102.5 cm). The statue weighs 144.26 kg. It is made of copper, covered with a triple layer of 24K gold gilding, and carved with deeply engraved carvings that produce a magnificent 3D-like effect. This sculpture, adorned with gemstones, handcrafted by expert Nepalese artisans, elegantly symbolizes Himalayan Buddhism's sacred traditions, making it an appropriate addition to altars, meditation places, or sacred collections.

Green Tara, also known as Shyama Tara, embodies boundless compassion and swift action to aid distressed people. Her right hand forward in the varada mudra, a gesture of giving and protection, while delicately holding a lotus flower between her thumb and index finger. Her left hand, raised in the three jewels mudra, holds an utpala flower between her thumb and ring finger, representing the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. Seated gracefully in vajra posture on a moon disc lotus base, she radiates serenity and readiness to assist all sentient beings. Tara wears a five-pointed crown, denoting her spiritual realization.

Every detail of Green Tara’s depiction carries profound meaning.

  • The Lotus Seat: Symbolizes purity and detachment, as the lotus remains untainted despite growing in muddy water.
  • Blue Utpala Flowers: Represent her eternal wisdom and compassion blooming amidst challenges.
  • The Green Hue: Reflects her active engagement with the world, embodying youthful energy and boundless mercy.
  • Her Posture: One leg extended symbolizes her readiness to spring into action, while the other leg folded represents her meditative serenity.
  • Jewels and Ornaments: Highlight her enlightened qualities and remind practitioners of the treasures of the Dharma.

According to Tibetan Buddhist tradition, Green Tara emerged from the compassionate tears of Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara), the Bodhisattva of Compassion. As he gazed upon the immense suffering of sentient beings, he wept with sorrow. From his left eye fell a tear forming a lake, and Green Tara rose from that lake, a female embodiment of his compassion in swift action. She vowed to remain in female form through all her lifetimes to aid those in need, challenging the notion that enlightenment must manifest in male form. Green Tara is deeply loved for her immediacy—she is known as the "Mother of all Buddhas" and the "Swift Liberator" because of her readiness to respond instantly to the cries of those in danger, fear, or despair. Her boundless compassion, calming presence, and the promise of swift aid have made her one of the most revered and beloved deities in the Buddhist world.
