The "Lotus-Born," Padmasambhava, is revered for both his extraordinary life and his miraculous birth. In the eighth century, he traveled to Tibet and established Buddhism in the face of immense hardship. Legendary are his teachings, especially on Dzogchen and Mahamudra, and his conversion of the Tibetan terrain into a hallowed area for practice. The summons to spiritual awakening and freedom found in Guru Rinpoche's mantra, "Om Ah Hum Vajra Guru Padma Siddhi Hum," embodies his deep influence.
