Sacred Machig Labdron Sculpture | Revered Tibetan Yogini of Chöd Practice

This Sacred Machig Labdron Sculpture measures 15.9”/40.5cm in height with a 12.4”/31.5cm base and weighs 3.15 kg. Handcrafted in Nepal from a copper body, the sculpture is finished with 24K gold gilding, detailed acrylic painting, and carefully placed gemstones that add luminosity, color, and refined decorative depth to the surface. The graceful proportions, precise metalwork, and meticulous hand-finishing reflect the skill of Nepalese artisans and the enduring traditions of Himalayan Buddhist craftsmanship. Spiritually, the figure is associated with the Chöd tradition, profound wisdom, the cutting of ego-clinging, and the transformation of fear and attachment into insight and compassionate awareness.

Machig Labdron is revered as the great Tibetan yogini and principal figure associated with the Chöd, or “Cutting,” tradition, a profound practice centered on overcoming attachment to the self and ego. She is traditionally depicted as a youthful, radiant white wisdom dakini with three eyes, symbolizing awakened awareness and profound spiritual insight. Her graceful dancing posture, with one leg firmly supporting the body and the other raised, expresses the dynamic movement of wisdom and the fearless energy of tantric practice. In her right hand, she raises a damaru, the ritual hand drum traditionally associated with Chöd practice, whose sound symbolizes impermanence and the cutting away of ego, while her left hand holds a bell, representing wisdom, emptiness, and the feminine aspect of enlightened realization. She is adorned with a jeweled crown, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, armlets, anklets, and bone ornaments, reflecting her appearance as a wisdom dakini and her connection with tantric traditions. Her flowing dark hair, graceful expression, and celestial ornaments enhance the sense of movement and spiritual power. She may be shown standing upon a moon disc and lotus, symbolizing purity, wisdom, and awakened realization. Together, the drum and bell, dancing posture, three eyes, and tantric ornaments express the profound purpose of Chöd: cutting through attachment, fear, and self-clinging to realize emptiness, compassion, and liberation.
