Green Tara, also known as Shyama Tara, embodies boundless compassion and swift action to aid distressed people. Her green-colored body symbolizes active compassion and healing energy. She extends her right hand forward in the varada mudra, a gesture of giving and protection, while delicately holding a lotus flower between her thumb and index finger. Her left hand, raised in the three jewels mudra, holds an utpala flower between her thumb and ring finger, representing the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. Seated gracefully in vajra posture on a moon disc lotus base, she radiates serenity and readiness to assist all sentient beings. Tara wears a five-pointed crown, denoting her spiritual realization. Her magnificent throne is richly adorned with intricate carvings, including a central visvavajra symbolizing indestructible truth, flanked by an elephant and a lion representing wisdom and courage. Two consorts sit beside her, one displaying the varada mudra of generosity and the other the vitarka mudra of teaching and discourse. The entire throne is exquisitely inlaid with hand-carved gemstones, enhancing the sacred elegance of this masterpiece.

According to Tibetan Buddhist tradition, Green Tara emerged from the compassionate tears of Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara), the Bodhisattva of Compassion. As he gazed upon the immense suffering of sentient beings, he wept with sorrow. From his left eye fell a tear forming a lake, and Green Tara rose from that lake, a female embodiment of his compassion in swift action. She vowed to remain in female form through all her lifetimes to aid those in need, challenging the notion that enlightenment must manifest in male form. Green Tara is deeply loved for her immediacy—she is known as the "Mother of all Buddhas" and the "Swift Liberator" because of her readiness to respond instantly to the cries of those in danger, fear, or despair. Her boundless compassion, calming presence, and the promise of swift aid have made her one of the most revered and beloved deities in the Buddhist world.
