Iconography

This Manjushri is depicted in his traditional two-armed, youthful Bodhisattva form, seated in the full vajra posture upon a double-lotus throne. His right hand raises a flaming sword, symbolizing the sharp and discriminating wisdom that cuts through ignorance and delusion. His left hand is held near the heart in a teaching gesture, while a lotus stem rises beside his shoulder and supports the Prajnaparamita Sutra, representing the Perfection of Wisdom and realization of emptiness. He has one serene face with gently lowered eyes, a calm expression, and a youthful appearance traditionally associated with the freshness and clarity of awakened wisdom. His dark hair is gathered into an elaborate jeweled crown, while richly detailed earrings, necklaces, armlets, bracelets, waist ornaments, and flowing silk scarves express his peaceful Bodhisattva form. His garments are intricately patterned, with his crossed legs resting firmly in a vajra posture. The double-lotus throne beneath him features layered petals with richly painted red, turquoise, green, and gold details, symbolizing purity and the unfolding of enlightened wisdom.

Traditional Craftmanship

Crafted from a copper body and finished with 24K gold gilding, acrylic painting, and carefully set gemstones, this sculpture demonstrates refined Himalayan craftsmanship. The intricate carvings across the crown, jewelry, garments, sword, lotus, and double-lotus throne are precisely modeled, with fine engraved patterns creating depth and definition throughout the figure. Individually shaped lotus petals, detailed ornamental borders, delicate gemstone settings, and vibrant acrylic-painted accents enrich the composition, while the radiant gold surface highlights the depth of the carving. The careful proportions, intricate handwork, detailed carving, and combination of gilding, painting, and gemstone embellishment give the sculpture a distinguished and highly refined sacred presence.
