Description

Manjushri Oxidized Copper Statue | Sacred Figure of Wisdom and Clear Insight

Manjushri Oxidized Copper Statue measures 17.32”/44cm in height with a 9.44”/24cm base and weighs 5.46 kg. Handcrafted in Nepal by skilled artisans, the sculpture is made entirely from an oxidized copper body, giving it a distinctive darkened surface and traditional Himalayan character. The oxidized finish emphasizes the sculpted contours, facial features, robes, ornaments, and other finely worked details, allowing the form of Manjushri to remain clearly defined across the surface. The substantial proportions and carefully finished copper work reflect the precision and dedication of Nepalese metal craftsmanship, creating a refined representation of Manjushri suitable for Buddhist altars, meditation spaces, Dharma centers, and Himalayan art collections.

Manjushri is depicted seated in the traditional lotus posture on an intricately carved lotus throne, with his right arm raised while holding a flaming sword of wisdom and his left hand supporting the stem of a lotus that blossoms beside his shoulder. The lotus supports a scripture, representing the teachings of transcendent wisdom. His serene expression, youthful features, elaborate crown, large earrings, layered necklaces, bracelets, and flowing celestial garments emphasize his enlightened Bodhisattva form. The sculpture is richly detailed with deeply carved floral, scroll, and ornamental patterns across the crown, jewelry, garments, throne, and surrounding aureole. The elaborate upper ornamentation features additional figures and decorative motifs, while the layered lotus pedestal and supporting base are covered with finely carved traditional designs, creating a highly intricate overall composition.

His teachings and practices later spread to Nepal, Tibet, China, and other regions of Asia, becoming especially important within Mahayana and Vajrayana traditions. Manjushri is traditionally depicted holding the flaming sword of wisdom, symbolizing the cutting away of ignorance and delusion.
