Handmade Manjushri Sacred Sculpture | The Bodhisattva of Knowledge
This Handmade Manjushri Sacred Sculpture measures 13.3”/34cm in height with a 10.8”/27.5cm base and weighs 3.73 kg. Handcrafted in Nepal from an oxidized copper body, the sculpture is enriched with 24K gold gilding, detailed acrylic painting, silver-plated accents, and carefully placed gemstones that create a refined contrast across the richly worked surface. The combination of darkened copper, luminous gold, silver detailing, and gemstone embellishment highlights the precision of the metalwork and the meticulous hand-finishing of skilled Nepalese artisans. Spiritually, the figure is associated with transcendent wisdom, clarity, insight, and the overcoming of ignorance, reflecting the enduring traditions of Himalayan Buddhist practice and craftsmanship.
Manjushri is depicted as the youthful embodiment of transcendent wisdom, intelligence, and the removal of ignorance. Seated gracefully upon a lotus throne, he raises the flaming sword of wisdom in his right hand, symbolizing the sharp insight that cuts through ignorance, confusion, and delusion. His left hand holds the stem of an utpala lotus bearing the Prajnaparamita scripture, representing the Perfection of Wisdom and profound Buddhist knowledge. His serene youthful expression, gently lowered eyes, elongated earlobes, and composed posture convey clarity and awakened awareness. The elaborate jeweled crown, earrings, layered necklaces, armlets, bracelets, waist ornaments, and flowing celestial garments emphasize his enlightened bodhisattva form, while the finely detailed lotus throne represents purity and spiritual awakening. Together, the flaming sword, wisdom scripture, lotus, and graceful form express Manjushri’s role as the embodiment of wisdom that dispels ignorance and leads beings toward profound understanding and liberation.
