Bhaisajyaguru (Medicine Buddha), known as the Medicine Buddha or Healing Light Buddha, is traditionally depicted seated in deep meditation, symbolizing complete inner balance and awakened wisdom. His body is often rendered in deep lapis lazuli blue, representing the healing light that purifies suffering, illness, and the root causes of pain. In his left hand, he holds an alms bowl filled with medicinal nectar, symbolizing the cure for both physical and spiritual afflictions, while his right hand rests in the gesture of granting blessings, often holding a myrobalan plant that signifies the supreme healing herb in Buddhist tradition. His calm and compassionate expression reflects perfect equanimity, while the monastic robes emphasize simplicity, discipline, and renunciation. Together, these iconographic elements express his role as the supreme healer who dispels suffering and guides beings toward complete restoration and enlightenment.
