Bhaisajyaguru (Medicine Buddha), known as the Medicine Buddha or Healing Light Buddha, is traditionally depicted seated in deep meditation, symbolizing complete inner balance and awakened wisdom. His body is often rendered in deep lapis lazuli blue, representing the healing light that purifies suffering, illness, and the root causes of pain. In his left hand, he holds an alms bowl filled with medicinal nectar, symbolizing the cure for both physical and spiritual afflictions, while his right hand rests in the gesture of granting blessings, often holding a myrobalan plant that signifies the supreme healing herb in Buddhist tradition. His calm and compassionate expression reflects perfect equanimity, while the monastic robes emphasize simplicity, discipline, and renunciation. Medicine Buddha, known in Sanskrit as Bhaisajyaguru, is revered in Mahayana Buddhism as the "Master of Medicine" or the "King of Medicine." He is believed to have made twelve great vows to help all sentient beings, focusing on relieving physical pain, curing illnesses, purifying negative karma, and guiding practitioners toward enlightenment. His practice is particularly invoked for healing, both physical and spiritual, and for dispelling the "three poisons" of attachment, aversion, and ignorance, promoting overall well-being.
