Jetsun Milarepa (c. 1052–c. 1135 CE) is one of Tibet's most revered yogis and poets, a central figure in the history of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. Born into a wealthy family, he tragically lost his fortune and later sought revenge through black magic. Overwhelmed by remorse, he dedicated himself to spiritual practice under the guidance of Marpa the Translator. Through immense perseverance and asceticism in remote caves, Milarepa achieved full enlightenment, becoming a beacon of redemption and spiritual realisation. His life story and songs emphasise the importance of diligent practice and renunciation.
