13 Inch Handmade Statue of Mitrugpa

This 13-inch (33 cm) handmade statue of Mitrugpa, measuring 8.7 inches (22 cm) across the base and weighing 3.96 kg, is a remarkable example of traditional Nepalese artistry. Crafted from a copper body, it is gilded with 24K gold and adorned with fine gold and acrylic paintings, further enhanced with gemstones. Its radiant detailing and elegant finish make it an exceptional piece for altars, meditation spaces, or personal collections.

Mitrugpa is depicted here in padmasana, seated upon a finely carved lotus base. His right hand holds a straight vajra, symbolizing indestructible power and unwavering strength, while his left hand rests in bhumisparsha mudra, the earth-touching gesture that signifies calling the earth to witness his vow. A five-pointed crown representing the Five Dhyani Buddhas adorns his head, embodying enlightened wisdom and spiritual authority. These iconographic features highlight Mitrugpa’s role as a protector and an embodiment of resilience within the Buddhist tradition.

Mitrugpa, also known as Akṣhobhya in some traditions, is one of the five cosmic Buddhas who embodies the quality of unshakable resolve and mirror-like wisdom. The name “Mitrugpa” translates to “Immovable One”, reflecting his role as the embodiment of stability, fearlessness, and the destruction of opposing forces. Practitioners revere him as a protector who transforms anger into clarity and wisdom, guiding them toward liberation.
