Description

Mother Green Tara Statue | Tibetan Buddhist Goddess Sculpture

Mother Green Tara Statue measures 20.1”/51cm in height with a 15.7”/40cm base and weighs 10.5 kg, giving the sculpture a substantial and well-proportioned presence. Crafted entirely from an oxidized copper body, the statue showcases the natural depth and character of the metal through its darkened surface finish. The oxidized treatment adds visual contrast and emphasizes the sculpted form, while the substantial copper construction reflects the traditional use of metal in Himalayan Buddhist sculpture. Its balanced proportions and distinctive oxidized finish give the piece a refined and traditional character.

Green Tara

She is revered as a compassionate female Bodhisattva who embodies swift, active compassion and the wish to liberate beings from suffering. She is traditionally associated with protection from fear, obstacles, and difficult circumstances, offering guidance and reassurance to practitioners. Her presence represents the responsive and compassionate nature of enlightened activity, reminding practitioners to cultivate courage, kindness, and wisdom. She is especially honored as the Mother of Liberation and is closely connected with practices focused on overcoming obstacles and progressing along the path toward awakening. Her iconography includes:

  • Posture:
Seated in lalitasana, with one leg folded inward and the other extended downward, expressing readiness to rise and offer assistance.

  • Right Hand:
Extended downward in varada mudra, the gesture of generosity and compassionate giving.

  • Left Hand:
Held near the heart in a protective gesture, holding the stem of a blue utpala lotus that rises beside the shoulder.

  • Lotus:
The blue utpala represents purity and wisdom, with its blooming form symbolizing the unfolding of awakened qualities.

  • Appearance:
She has a peaceful expression and green complexion, traditionally associated with active compassionate energy. Her five-jeweled crown, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and celestial garments emphasize her enlightened Bodhisattva form.
